GST Council Unveils Simplified Two-Tier Tax Structure

The GST Council approved a major overhaul, adopting a simplified two-rate system recommended by the Centre in its 56th meeting. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman confirmed most changes will take effect from September 22. Tobacco and related products will transition later, with a separate implementation date to be announced by the finance minister.
