GoM Proposes GST Hike On Tobacco, Clothing & Soft Drinks

The Group of Ministers (GoM) on Goods and Services Tax (GST) has proposed an increase in the current 28% GST on cigarettes, tobacco, soft drinks, and other related products to 35%. In addition, GST on clothing has been revised, with a 28% tax on clothes priced above Rs. 10,000. The GoM has also decided to propose to the GST Council an adjustment of tax rates on total of 148 types of goods.
