The health ministry reports that 4,309 COVID-19 cases are currently active in India, and that there have been 841 new cases—the highest number in 227 days. Three more COVID-related deaths have been reported in the recent 24 hours, one from each of Kerala, Karnataka, and Bihar, according to statistics provided by the ministry at 8 a.m.
The number of cases each day had dropped to double digits prior to December 5, but the cold weather and the arrival of a new variant have caused cases to rise once more. The daily counts were expressed in lakhs during the peak of the pandemic, which began in early 2020 and led in over 4.5 crore infections and over 5.3 lakh deaths in about four years nationwide.
On the ministry’s website, it states that around 4.4 million people have recovered from the disease, translating to a 98.81 percent recovery rate for the nation. The country has reportedly administered 220.67 crore doses of the COVID vaccine to date, according to the website.
