India Declares Snakebites A Notifiable Disease Amid Concerns

Snakebites in India have become a public health concern, with around 50,000 deaths annually from an estimated 3-4 million bites, accounting for half of global snakebite fatalities. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has declared snakebite cases and deaths as a “notifiable disease.” Farmers and tribal populations are particularly at risk.
