Mumbai’s Western Railway will soon test 18-coach local trains to ease crowding. Safety trials, including emergency braking and coupler force tests, will be held on the Virar–Dahanu section in mid-January. Two train sets will be tested. If successful and infrastructure permits, longer trains could carry more passengers on the busy suburban route.
