West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee announced a ₹500 hike in monthly honorariums for priests and muezzins, raising it to ₹2,000. Highlighting their role in sustaining spiritual and social life, she also approved all fresh applications. Banerjee called them custodians of the state’s rich spiritual heritage, deserving recognition and support.
