The Indian government has tightened rules for foreigners seeking to stay beyond 180 days. As per new MHA amendments effective June 1, 2026, foreign nationals must register with FRRO before completing 180 days. Extensions will now be granted only in emergencies. Some relaxations have been provided for children born to mixed-nationality parents.
