Polygamy Ban Bill Passed In Assam, Exceptions Included In Law

The Assam Cabinet approved a Bill banning polygamy, making it a punishable offence with up to seven years’ imprisonment and compensation for victims. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said it excludes Scheduled Tribes and six Scheduled Areas, with exemptions for certain Muslim residents. He also discussed arms license scrutiny and land regulation initiatives.
