A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off Kamchatka, Russia, 111 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 39.5 km, the USGS reported. Initially measured at 7.5, the quake prompted a Pacific Tsunami Warning Center alert for waves up to 1 metre locally, with Japan, Hawaii, and other Pacific islands expecting smaller waves under 30 cm.
