The union government has barred all ministries, departments, and bodies from spending on gifts for Diwali and other festivals, per a Ministry of Finance directive issued. Citing prudent use of public funds, the order follows past cost-cutting measures and coincides with new GST reforms aimed at boosting consumption during the festive season.
