The Israeli army assisted UN peacekeepers in repelling an attack by armed individuals on a UN post in the Hader area of Syria, near the Golan Heights. Syrian rebels captured Quneitra, 12 km south of Hader. Israel emphasized it was not intervening in Syria but working to prevent regional threats. Army chief Herzi Halevi visited the Syrian border but made no comment on Syria’s internal events.
