Fast-moving brush fires, driven by strong winds, swept through Long Island on Saturday, forcing evacuations and highway closures. Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency as fires threatened homes, a chemical factory, and an Amazon warehouse. Officials contained 3 fires, while the Westhampton blaze remained 50% contained.
