Will Women’s Reservation Be Delayed After Bill Defeat?

The Constitution (131st) Amendment Bill, 2026, was defeated in the LS on April 17, 2026. It proposed redistributing LS seats based on the 2011 Census to speed up women’s reservation. The Women’s Reservation Act, 2023, remains in force. The government notified Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam on April 16, 2026, activating its 15-year sunset clause.
