“No To Religious Rule”: Syrians Protest Demanding Democracy

Hundreds of people gathered in Syria’s Damascus’s Ummayad Square demanding a democratic state that includes women in public life. This marks the first such demonstration since Islamist-led rebels toppled longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad. The protestors chanted slogans like “No to religious rule”, and “We want a democracy, not a religious state”.
