Family members of the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 have accused the Kolkata Police
Family members of the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 have accused the Kolkata Police of attempting to suppress the case. They allege that the police hurriedly cremated the doctor’s body and even tried to bribe them.
During a protest on Wednesday, the victim’s father stated, “The police, from the very beginning, tried to hush up the case. We were not allowed to see the body and had to wait at the police station while it was taken for post-mortem examination.” He further claimed that when the body was finally returned to them, a senior police official offered them money, which they rejected.
The family’s allegations come amidst ongoing protests demanding justice for the victim. The case, initially investigated by the Kolkata Police, was later transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following an order from the Calcutta High Court. This transfer was prompted by concerns about the handling of the investigation and the police’s actions following the incident.
The protests have drawn significant public attention, with thousands participating in various demonstrations across West Bengal, including a recent “Reclaim the Night” campaign aimed at raising awareness about violence against women.
