Finance authorities were ordered to create a "realistic budget" for 2024–25 by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He instructed authorities to provide the public with information through the budget on the state government's debt load, outstanding debts that need to be paid, and the government's monthly spending. He asked them not to distort income and expenses to paint an inaccurate picture of the state's financial situation or to withhold information on loans.
Finance authorities were ordered to create a “realistic budget” for 2024–25 by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He instructed authorities to provide the public with information through the budget on the state government’s debt load, outstanding debts that need to be paid, and the government’s monthly spending. He asked them not to distort income and expenses to paint an inaccurate picture of the state’s financial situation or to withhold information on loans. On Wednesday, Revanth Reddy convened a review meeting about the Secretariat’s finance department. Attending the meeting were Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who is in charge of finance; special chief secretary for finance K. Ramakrishna Rao; secretary T.K. Sreedevi; and other officials.
He asked officials to check unnecessary expenditure, not to purchase new vehicles and reduce expenditure on publicity and advertisements. He asked them to use old vehicles and issue advertisements only in unavoidable circumstances. Revanth Reddy directed officials to focus on securing maximum grants from the Centre for the implementation of various welfare schemes and development programmes. He said the Centre implements several centrally sponsored schemes and instructed officials to tap those schemes to the maximum extent to reduce burden on the state government. He asked representatives to make sure Telangana receives all grants from the central government. The previous BRS government, which ruled Telangana state for ten years, created “unrealistic budgets” with fictitious figures on debt, income, and expenditure. He asked bureaucrats to construct the budget for 2024–25 as if Telangana State had just recently been formed. He requested precise figures from authorities regarding the state government’s actual revenue, the costs associated with paying employee wages and pensions, the costs associated with keeping election-related pledges to the public, etc.
