Just weeks after surviving an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, former US President Donald Trump faced another significant security breach during his event in Johnstown on Friday. An unidentified man breached security by climbing over a bicycle rack surrounding the media area and began scaling the back of a riser where television reporters and cameras were stationed.
The man was quickly surrounded by police and subdued with a taser. As the man was being escorted away, Trump remarked, “Is there anywhere that’s more fun to be than a Trump rally?”
Shortly after the initial incident, another man in the crowd was arrested by police and led out of the arena, although it was unclear if his detention was connected to the security breach.
The Friday event came as Trump slammed media outlets for “unfavourable coverage” and criticized CNN over his recent interview with Democratic rival Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz.
The police, along with nearby individuals, are seen pulling the man off the stage before he was tasered and taken away. The crowd cheered as the police escorted the man out, prompting Trump’s remark.
The man was later taken into custody and released, but details regarding his identity and possible motivations have not yet been disclosed. It remains unclear whether he was a supporter or critic of Trump.
In July, Trump was targeted during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in an apparent assassination attempt that left him bloodied. Panic erupted as several gunshots were fired at him, and although he managed to escape, a bullet grazed his ear. The attack resulted in the death of an attendee and critically injured two others.
