Only a few days after withdrawing from his home Australian Open, Nick Kyrgios declares, “I don’t want to play anymore,” but he plans to extend his tennis career for another year or two. When he tore a ligament in his wrist after undergoing knee surgery in January, the gifted but erratic 28-year-old had his plans to play at Wimbledon canceled. Having already discussed his issues with mental health, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist has now opened up about his physical issues on the On Purpose podcast with Jay Shetty. “If it was up to me, I don’t really want to play anymore, to be honest,” Kyrgios replied. “But I have to almost (keep playing). I’ve got so much more to give, but for me, I don’t want to play anymore. “I’m exhausted, I’m tired. I have had three surgeries now. “When I get up, I can’t walk without pain.” After withdrawing from the Australian Open in January, Kyrgios, who peaked at number 13 in the world in 2016, claimed he was “heartbroken” this past week. There has been a lot of discussion lately over his tennis career due to his prolonged injury layoff. According to Kyrgios, who spoke to the podcast this week, “I only want to play for about another one to two years and be at the top and go out (on my own terms).” “I’d be horrified to undergo any kind of additional surgery. I believe I can live for another good year or two, therefore.”
