Kishan joined Congress (INC) and contested from Jaunpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, where he secured only 42,759 votes, or just 4.25% of the total votes, and finished in 6th place.
Kishan left the Congress Party and joined the BJP in 2017. He contested on a BJP ticket from Gorakhpur during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls against Samajwadi Party candidate Rambhual Nishad. Kishan won against Rambhual Nishad by a margin of over 3,01,664 votes.
He currently serves as a Member of Parliament from the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha constituency.
