Deepavali, India’s festival of lights, has been added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The announcement was made at the Red Fort in Delhi during an international committee session. Grand celebrations are planned across the capital today. Deepavali now joins other Indian UNESCO-listed traditions like Kumbh Mela, Durga Puja, and yoga.
Jharkhand Minister Radhakrishna Kishore proposed renaming Ranchi’s Raj Bhavan as Birsa Bhawan and Dumka’s as Sido-Kanhu Bhawan, honoring tribal leaders. He stated that Raj Bhavan is state property, and renaming powers lie with the government. Built in 1931 at ₹7 lakh, the Ranchi complex spans 52 acres, including the 10-acre Audrey House.
