TMC Leader Makes Major Attack Conspiracy Claim Amid Deadlock With Doctors

Amid the ongoing deadlock between protesting doctors and the West Bengal government, senior Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh has alleged that “opposition forces” are conspiring to attack the protesters to discredit the Mamata Banerjee government.
Ghosh presented an audio clip as evidence of this alleged conspiracy. The protests began after the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.
The conversation, according to Ghosh, involves a member of the Left youth wing and an ultra-Left group discussing a conspiracy against the government. They allegedly planned to attack the doctors’ sit-in and then blame the ruling party and state government for the violence following the recent deadlock. Ghosh claimed this as the core of the conspiracy.
Ghosh reiterated his claim on X, urging the police to prevent outsiders from approaching the protest site at Swasthya Bhavan in Kolkata’s Salt Lake, where doctors have been staging a sit-in since Tuesday.
The police have initiated a case and made one arrest. CPI (M) spokesperson Fuad Halim called for an investigation into how Ghosh obtained the audio clip. On August 14, during a peaceful protest, a large group of individuals entered RG Kar hospital and attempted to tamper with the crime scene, according to Fuad Halim.
He criticized the administration for not addressing the identity, political affiliations, or motives of the 20-30 arrested suspects, accusing the Trinamool Congress of fostering a threatening environment. Efforts to initiate talks between the state government and the protesting doctors have been stalled since Tuesday.
The doctors have outlined four key demands: a delegation of at least 30 should be permitted, discussions should include Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, focus on their five-point agenda, and be live-streamed.
Three of the doctors’ four demands were met, and they arrived at the state secretariat on Thursday for a meeting. However, the meeting was canceled because the government did not agree to a live telecast. CM Mamata Banerjee, who had waited for the doctors for over two hours, explained that the matter was in court and that live streaming the meeting would violate protocol.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee apologized to the people of West Bengal and expressed her willingness to resign, stating she does not desire the Chief Minister’s position but seeks justice for Tilottama, the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered.
She criticized the protest for having a “political color” and claimed that, while some delegation members were open to talks, others were receiving external instructions to avoid negotiation and not attend the meeting. She noted that these instructions were visible because the press was recording the situation.
The doctors’ five-point demands include: holding all individuals accountable for the rape, murder, and any destruction of evidence, and enforcing strict disciplinary action against former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Principal Sandip Ghosh.
demanding the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam; ensuring enhanced security for healthcare workers; and addressing the ‘threat culture’ in government healthcare institutions.
