Over six people were killed, and 26 others were injured in Northern Mexico in an gunmen attack in a party and opened fire on partygoers. Officials stated that the attack took place in the border state of Sonora's city of Ciudad Obregon. In the attack two of the victims were under the age of eighteen, and five of the injured were children.

Thirteen of those admitted were treated, while four were listed as critically ill in nearby hospitals.
As per official statements the shooting incident was an attack on a suspected cartel member who was wanted for homicide and other charges.
The police officials also asserted that in Mexico, where drug-related violence has killed over 420,000 people since 2006, criminal gunmen have a history of targeting on social events. Eleven individuals were killed when gunmen opened fire on a gathering of young Mexicans in the central state of Guanajuato on December 17.
