Malnutrition is One Issue That India Must Address to Become a Developed Nation: Rajan
According to former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan, India must focus on its most valuable resource—its human capital—while simultaneously addressing issues like malnutrition if it hopes to become a developed country. Asking how the nation could become developed while malnutrition is so common, he was speaking during an interactive session at the Indian School of Business (ISB) on a book he co-authored.
The goal of being a wealthy and developed nation by 2047 is our obsession. “I use this to illustrate how you have to be kidding when you suggest that by 2047, you would be a developed, wealthy nation with 35 percent of the population suffering from starvation,” he remarked. Ten years from now, the malnourished youngsters will be entering the workforce, he said.
Additionally, he emphasized the need to develop the nation’s human capital by providing widespread access to suitable training. We must concentrate on India’s most valuable resource, its human capital, if we hope to achieve success in the long run. We are the country with the most people in the world, with 1.4 billion,” he stated. “We can create a great deal of value if we can properly train a lot of those individuals. That’s where I would say we should start. Determine the issue and resolve it there, Rajan stated. In response to the question of whether the financial system he had begun “cleaning up” while serving as RBI Governor had been fully cleaned up or if more work had to be done, Rajan stated, “It’s taken a long time, but I actually understand that it’s now cleaned up.”
