According to a US agency, a global coral bleaching event that began last year has become the largest on record, affecting approximately 77% of the world’s reef area as of October 10, 2024. Derek Manzello from NOAA noted that this ongoing event, the fourth since 1998, has already surpassed the previous record of 65.7% and continues to expand.
