Hailstorms in summer occur due to the presence of updrafts in thunderclouds. During hot weather, the air near the ground heats up, causing rapid upward movement of warm. In intense thunderstorms, the updrafts carry hailstones high enough for them to freeze before falling to the ground. These conditions make summer hailstorms possible.
