WhatsApp has announced it will discontinue support for smartphones running Android 5.0 and earlier versions starting Sept 8. Users with older devices are receiving notifications about the change. To avoid losing conversations, they are advised to back up chats using Google Drive or transfer data to a newer supported device before access is withdrawn.
