Centre Denies Claims On IT Dept Accessing Social Media

The Centre has dismissed rumours claiming the Income Tax department will gain access to individuals’ social media accounts and emails. It clarified that reports suggesting such powers would be implemented from the next financial year are incorrect. No authority has been granted to the IT dept in this regard, the PIB Fact Check issuing a clear rebuttal.
