Conservation Efforts Underway to Restore Endangered Loa Water Frogs

A dozen critically endangered Loa water frogs were flown from Santiago to Calama in a conservation effort to restore their natural habitat in the world’s driest desert. Nearly extinct in 2019 due to habitat loss, scientists successfully bred 500 frogs at Parquemet Zoo. The newly inaugurated El Loa Biodiversity and Conservation Center aims to support their reproduction and habitat recovery.
