The Indian government has directed messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and others to stay linked to a user’s active SIM to prevent cyber-fraud. Within 90 days, apps must enforce SIM-based access and web versions must log out every six hours. Compliance reports are due within 120 days, with penalties for violations under telecom laws.
