Pakistan Muslim League (N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif chose Kasur, the constituency of his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif, to end their political campaign on a high note, while Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari traveled to Larkana, home of the Bhutto political dynasty, on the final day of the campaign trail.
Sharif was also scheduled to speak at a rally in Lahore, but it was cancelled. In a official statement, the electoral board requested that all candidates and their parties should obey the Elections Act Section 182. According to Section 182, no one may take part in a public assembly, parade, corner meeting, or other political activity after Tuesday night. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) stated that if anyone refuses the particular legal provision will face legal action.
The ECP further noted that Election campaigns, ads, and other written materials in print and electronic media promoting or opposing a specific political party or candidate were prohibited after beginning of the pre-election quiet period.
However, for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), things were different. The party lost its famous election emblem, the “bat,” but the party founder, Imran Khan is still detained and faces numerous charges.
