First Woman Speaker: Nancy Pelosi Wins 20th Consecutive Election

Democratic candidate Nancy Pelosi has won her 20th consecutive election in the US. Representing California’s largest district, Pelosi first won in 1987. In 2003, she made history as the first woman to be elected Speaker of the US House of Representatives, serving two terms—2007-2011 and 2019-2023. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to an Italian-American family in 1940.
