Former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) minister and five-time MLA Balabhadra Majhi have officially joined the Congress party. The joining ceremony took place at Bhawanipatna, where Majhi joined the Congress in the presence of key leaders, including Odisha-in-charge Ajoy Kumar, PCC President Sarat Pattanayak, former Union Minister Bhakta Charan Das, and other senior party members.
Balabhadra Majhi, who had initially been elected from Narla to the Odisha Assembly in 1990 on a Janata Dal ticket, continued his political journey by winning elections in 1995 from Narla and subsequently in 2000, 2004, and 2014 from the Lanjigarh seat.
Upon joining the Congress party, Majhi, emphasizing his tribal leadership, expressed his reasons for leaving the BJD. He highlighted a perceived lack of respect and difficulty in meeting with party leaders, leading to his decision to quit the BJD. The Congress party has also lifted suspensions on notable leaders Mohammed Moquim and Chiranjib Biswal ahead of the crucial 2024 elections.
