SC Clarifies Caste Column Deletion In Prisons Won’t Affect NCRB Data Collection

The Supreme Court clarified that its order to remove caste references from undertrials’ and convicts’ prison records will not obstruct data collection by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). In its October 3 verdict, the Court banned caste-based discrimination in jails and directed the removal of caste columns from prison registers. It also mandated prison law amendments for greater equality.
