The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to suspend the ongoing panchayat elections in Punjab, warning that halting elections on polling day would lead to chaos. Polling commenced at 8 AM, and CJI DY Chandrachud stated that intervention at this stage was impractical. The court, however, agreed to hear challenges against the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision to permit the elections.
