The Jammu and Kashmir government has remitted the life sentence of Kulwant Singh Manhas, convicted for murdering his wife in 2005. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha issued the release order on October 17, 2024, under the BNSS 2023. Manhas, who has served 16 years, must adhere to strict conditions post-release, including regular police reporting and maintaining good behavior.
