Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), S Krishnan, launched the ‘groundbreaking’ SWASTHA project and the state-of-the-art ISO 5 and 6 clean room facilities at IIT Guwahati’s Centre for Nanotechnology on Friday.
The Smart Wearable Advanced Nano Sensing Technologies in Healthcare ASICs (SWASTHA) project intends to transform healthcare using advanced nanoelectronics theranostic devices.
The project’s goal is to create high-quality products and prototypes in micro/nanoelectronics and nanomaterials, with a focus on healthcare and energy. The IIT Guwahati highlighted creativity, scientific collaboration, and technological growth.
While addressing an event, the Secretary said that the effective establishment of clean room facilities and the implementation of the SWASTHA Center for Excellence are a watershed moment in the North-Eastern region because young human resources can now take advantage of these world-class high-end facilities right at their doorstep to pursue their lofty scientific and technological goals.
He also said that the ISO 5 and 6 clean room facilities are the first of their type in North Eastern India. They are committed to increasing knowledge and training in micro/nano electronic fabrication, encouraging industrial research and development, and assisting the Indian Nanoelectronics Users Programme (INUP).
According to Krishnan, this pioneering center in north-east India has had an incredible start and has established a new standard for similar initiatives to be followed both in this region and the nation as a whole.
