Hurricane Helene Strikes Florida’s Coast

Hurricane Helene, classified as extremely dangerous, made landfall in Florida, prompting warnings of “unsurvivable” conditions and devastating storm surge potentially high enough to inundate 2-story homes. Over a million people were without power, and roads were already flooded. Strengthening to a Category 4 hurricane, Helene reached the Big Bend area with winds of 140 mph.
