Umar Khalid, the former Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader, has been granted seven-day interim bail by a city court in connection with a “larger conspiracy” case linked to the 2020 Delhi riots. Khalid, who was arrested in September 2020, had been denied regular bail several times. The riots resulted in 53 deaths and over 700 injuries. He must return to jail after the interim bail period.
