Colombia, the largest cocaine exporter, set a record in 2023 for coca leaf cultivation and cocaine production, according to a UN report. Coca cultivation increased by 10%, while cocaine output rose 53% to 2,600 tonnes, the highest since 2001. President Gustavo Petro criticized US anti-drug policies for exacerbating issues and called for a focus on prevention and public health instead of repression.
