17,000+ WhatsApp Accounts Blocked In Digital Arrest Fraud Crackdown

The Ministry of Home Affairs blocked over 17,000 WhatsApp accounts in a crackdown on digital arrest frauds. These accounts, mostly linked to Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand, were used for cyber scams. Fraudsters impersonated law enforcement officials to deceive victims into transferring money. Scammers siphoned off ₹2,140 crore in 2023, with ₹6 crore lost daily, according to MHA.
