A comprehensive plan is being developed to protect the city of Hyderabad from the threat of heavy floods, with an eye on the needs of 2050. Currently, the city’s drainage system can only handle up to 8 cm of rain per day. In Oct 2020, when 19.2 cm of rainfall fell in a single day, the city was thrown into chaos. To address this, the plan proposes to divert floodwaters first into the ponds.
