India’s Olympic Hockey Medallist Frederick Passes Away

Manuel Frederick, who was the first person from Kerala to win an Olympic hockey medal, passed away in Bengaluru today. Frederick was aged 78 and was the goalkeeper of the Indian team that won the bronze medal by beating Holland in the 1972 Munich Olympics. He was awarded the Dhyan Chand Award in 2019. In 1971, he played in his 1st international match for India.
