Buffalo, Bulbul Fights Banned In Assam By Gauhati High Court

The Gauhati High Court banned buffalo and bulbul fights in Assam, overturning a state SOP that allowed such events during Bhogali Bihu. The court found the practices violated the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Wildlife Protection Act. PETA India presented evidence of animal abuse, including physical harm to buffaloes and intoxication of bulbul birds to provoke aggression.
