The Taliban is removing “Un-Islamic” and anti-government books from Afghan libraries and markets, replacing them with Islamic texts like the Koran. A commission under the Ministry of Information and Culture has identified 400 such titles since 2021. While censorship existed under the previous government, publishers now report widespread fear and restricted freedom of expression under Taliban rule.
