A Gujarat court acquitted former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt in a 1997 custodial torture case, citing insufficient evidence and inability to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt. Bhatt, who was accused of forcing a confession using threats and weapons, was given the benefit of the doubt. He is serving life imprisonment in other cases, including a 1990 custodial death and a 1996 drug planting case.
