Reservation Can’t Be On Basis Of Religion: Supreme Court 

The Supreme Court said that reservations cannot be granted based on religion. This came during a hearing on the West Bengal govt’s plea challenging the Calcutta High Court’s decision to remove 77 communities from the OBC list. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal clarified that the reservations were based on backwardness, not religion, applying to all groups, including Hindus.
