Belgium’s New Law Grants Sex Workers Pension And Maternity Leave

Belgium’s new law provides sex workers with employment rights, including maternity leave, pensions, and health insurance—marking a global first. Previously criminalized, sex work was decriminalized in 2022. Advocates say this law improves safety and protections for sex workers.  The law was driven by protests during the COVID-19 pandemic and aims to offer sex workers legal protections and dignity.
