Former CBI Director Vijay Shankar passed away on December 3 at the age of 76, after battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. A 1969-batch IPS officer from Uttar Pradesh, Shankar had served in the Uttar Pradesh Police and Moscow under the Ministry of External Affairs. He led the CBI from 2005 to 2008, overseeing the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case. His family has donated his remains to AIIMS.
