The Kerala government has challenged an expert panel’s recommendation to increase the safety distance between stone quarries and residential areas to 150 metres. In a report to the National Green Tribunal, the state highlighted flaws in the panel’s findings. It argued that the existing 50-metre distance is adequate and needs no change.
