Five Hyderabad youths drowned while taking a holy dip in the Godavari River at Basar on June 15. Despite being unable to swim, they entered deep waters. Locals alerted authorities, but all five died. Earlier, on June 7, a seven-year-old boy drowned during a ritual dip in Bhadrachalam under similar circumstances.
